The Doctoral School of the University of Valladolid has a set of activities and processes aimed at guaranteeing the quality, control, review and continuous improvement of doctoral studies. These activities and processes are developed and supervised by three bodies: the academic committees of the doctoral programmes, the Doctoral Committee and the Doctoral School itself (EsDUVa). In this process of quality control and supervision, the EsDUVa is responsible for the following functions:
- Organising training activities to promote transversal research skills.
- To collaborate with the Doctoral Commission for the continuous improvement of the quality of doctoral theses presented at the University of Valladolid.
- To promote quality in the third cycle training offer, participating in the processes of verification, monitoring and accreditation of the same.
- To approve applications for the incorporation and withdrawal of researchers in the Doctoral Programmes.
- To define and document the processes and procedures aimed at guaranteeing the quality of postgraduate studies.
According to the Regulation on the bodies of the quality assurance system of the UVa, the competences and functions of the Master's Degree Committees are as follows:
- a) To know and evaluate the results of the reports generated by the Quality Assurance System for the degree.
- b) To draw up the monitoring reports for the degree, except in the case of intercentre degrees for which they must participate in their preparation, the final preparation being the responsibility of the corresponding Intercentre Committee.
- c) To ensure compliance with the annual degree programme improvement plans at the faculty, as well as to review compliance with the internal quality assurance system for the degree programme.
- d) To ensure compliance in the faculty with the commitments, procedures and protocols established for the degree programme in the corresponding verification report.
- e) To organise and keep up to date the specific documentary archive of the degree programme managed through the computer application set up for this purpose for the monitoring and accreditation of degree programmes, except in the case of intercentre degree programmes, in which case this responsibility falls to the corresponding Intercentre Committee without detriment to its active contribution and collaboration with the same in the development of this responsibility.
- f) To cooperate with the competent bodies, through the legal channels and procedures, in the resolution of incidents, complaints and suggestions that may arise within the scope of the degree programme.
- g) To propose to the competent bodies for the processing and approval of modifications to the corresponding verification reports as many duly argued and documented proposals as are relevant, in its opinion, for the improvement of the syllabus.
- h) To report in advance on any proposal for modification that is submitted to the competent quality agency for processing within the scope of its degree programme.
- i) To advise and cooperate with the competent bodies in all matters of quality linked to the degree programme at the Centre.
- j) Any other powers attributed to it by the Regulations on Credit Recognition and Transfer and the Academic Regulations of the University of Valladolid.
The EsDUVa Master's Commission has the following functions:
- a) To carry out the tasks related to the management of master's degrees assigned to the Boards of Centres by the Regulations on Academic Organisation of the University of Valladolid, with the exception of the tasks to be carried out in the centres where the teaching is given.
- b) To carry out the tasks related to the management of master's degrees assigned to the Boards of Centres by the Regulations on the awarding of the extraordinary end-of-degree prize at the University of Valladolid.
- c) To carry out the tasks related to the management of master's degrees assigned to the Boards of Centres by the Regulations on the Bodies of the Quality Assurance System of the University of Valladolid.
- d) To approve the creation and composition of the degree committees of the Official Master's Degrees assigned to the EsDUVa.
- e) Any others assigned by the Management Committee of the EsDUVa.
The Guarantees Commission is the EsDUVa body responsible for studying and resolving complaints from doctoral and master's degree students regarding their assessment.
The Guarantee Commission will have the following functions:
- a) To study and resolve complaints from students requesting a review of their qualifications in Master's degree courses attached to the EsDUVa, as established in the Academic Regulations.
- b) To study and resolve complaints from doctoral students in relation to evaluations issued by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme.
