Alberto Finzi – Curso «Planning and robotics: plan-based methods for autonomous robots»

Planning and executing complex tasks is a fundamental challenge for autonomous and interactive robotic systems. Structured and goal-oriented behavior requires integrated planning and execution capabilities across multiple levels of abstraction. This course presents and discusses various AI-based planning and execution methodologies for autonomous robots. It covers key techniques and their associated architectural paradigms, highlighting their advantages and limitations. The course first introduces classical, temporal, and hierarchical approaches, then presents methods for integrated planning and scheduling, plan monitoring and execution, and combined task and motion planning. Further topics include the interaction between planning and learning, collaborative task execution, and a discussion of open research challenges in robotic autonomy.

Sobre Alberto Finzi

Alberto Finzi is an Associate Professor at the University of Naples "Federico II", where he works at the PRISMA Lab and is responsible for the AI and Cognitive Robotics research area. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Intelligent Service Robotics and coordinates the Robotics Working Group of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA). His research focuses on autonomous robotics, task and motion planning, execution monitoring, learning, and human-robot interaction.
