Aimed at research training in doctoral programmes for the attainment of the title of Doctor and the acquisition of university teaching skills in any area of scientific knowledge, which will facilitate the future incorporation of the beneficiaries into the Spanish higher education and scientific research system. These grants are for the formalisation of pre-doctoral contracts with the University of Valladolid, and have a maximum duration of four years, except if it is a person with disabilities in which case the aid may have a duration of six years, in accordance with the provisions of Article 21.c) of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation.
The granting of aid is resolved by means of a two-stage competitive process. In the first phase, the average mark of the previous studies carried out will be assessed. In the second phase, in addition to the CV of the candidate, the CV of the thesis supervisor, the training plan of the thesis and the track record of the receiving research group will be assessed.

The purpose of the aid is to train doctors by financing employment contracts, under the pre-doctoral contract modality, for research personnel in training at R&D centres, who wish to carry out a doctoral thesis associated with a research project financed by the aid for R&D projects of the State Sub-programme for the Generation of Knowledge within the framework of the State Programme for the Promotion of Scientific and Technical Research of Excellence or by the aid for R&D&I projects "Research Challenges" of the State Programme for Research, Development and Innovation Oriented towards the Challenges of Society, both within the framework of the State R&D&I Plan.
In turn, the purpose of the grants is to finance the employment contracting, during a one-year postdoctoral orientation period (hereinafter POP), of those doctorate holders who obtain their doctorate degree before the start of the last year of the grant.
The grants will have a maximum duration of four years and will start to run from the date on which the contracted researcher takes up his or her post at the contracting R&D centre.
The aid will comprise three concepts: aid to finance contracts, aid for stays in R&D centres and aid to finance tuition fees for doctoral studies.
The grants will be awarded within a maximum period of 6 months from the call for applications, through a competitive process.

Where appropriate, an employment contract will be formalised for a post-doctoral orientation period of one year's duration, for those beneficiaries who obtain their doctoral degree before the start of the last year of the contract.
The Consejería de Educación de la Junta de Castiila y León annually announces grants to finance the pre-doctoral recruitment of research staff, co-financed by the European Social Fund. Within the framework of support for the pre-doctoral recruitment of research staff of the European Social Fund Operational Programme of Castilla y León 2014-2020, consisting of a line of aid co-financed by this fund, and by Order EDU/602/2016, of 27 June (BOCYL no. 128, of 5 July), the Regional Ministry of Education established the regulatory bases for the granting of these aids.
The grants are awarded on a competitive basis, following a call for applications by means of the corresponding order issued by the Regional Ministry and published in the BOCYL.

In some cases, funding for the completion of the doctoral thesis is carried out through the recruitment of research staff in training attached to a project/agreement or research contract, called by the Principal Investigator through the UVa's E-Office.

The doctoral scholarships are aimed at promoting the attainment of the academic degree of doctor among professors from Latin American universities associated with the FC, while the aim of the Postdoctoral Short Stay scholarships is to complete the postdoctoral training of professors from these centres and facilitate the establishment of academic networks between Spain and America.
Both types of grants are based on a co-financing system, set out in bilateral educational cooperation agreements, fundamentally inspired by the principle of equal opportunities.
